UK caregivers — Canada’s home care economy is open to you
Canada’s Home Care Provider pathways are designed to recruit caregivers from the UK and elsewhere to look after children, elderly Canadians and people with disabilities in private homes. With the ageing Canadian population, demand has structurally increased and the routes have simplified.
The two main Home Care Provider streams
Home Child Care Provider Pilot
For caregivers looking after children under 18 in a private home. NOC 44100 Home child care provider.
Home Support Worker Pilot
For caregivers looking after the elderly, people with disabilities or chronic illness. NOC 44101 Home support worker.
Both pilots offer direct PR pathway after 24 months of qualifying work experience in Canada.
Eligibility for UK caregivers
- UK secondary school qualifications (or higher)
- Language CLB 5 in English (IELTS General 4.0 Speaking/Listening, 4.0 Reading/Writing)
- 1 year of relevant paid work experience or 6 months training in Canada

- No employer fees — the employer must not pass costs to you
How the pathway works

- Apply for a work permit and PR application simultaneously.
- Work permit is employer-specific or occupation-specific (depending on stream variant).

- Become eligible for PR confirmation.

Avoid the recruitment scams
The home care sector has historically been targeted by unethical recruiters. Never pay an employer or recruiter for a job offer. Verify offers via official channels. A licensed RCIC can pre-vet any employer or agency contacting you. See our Ask an RCIC service.
